In today’s technological age, the cloud system is becoming increasingly important. Many users are opting for this system to store their data. But what is cloud computing? How does it work? What are the main advantages of using it? What are the different types?  These are all questions that deserve explanatory answers.

Definition of cloud computing

Cloud computing refers to a range of computer-related services provided on demand via the Internet. It is not necessary to have an equipment infrastructure to access these services, an internet connection is sufficient. These services also include the management of remote servers, various software, different analysis tools, and everything related to artificial intelligence. Generally speaking, customers only pay for the space dedicated to their use. As an example, a cloud service may concern the storage of data through providers on the Internet.

Cloud computing is based on the provision of services by a provider. At the request of its customer, the provider provides the management of the cloud service. This means that the requester does not need to host the services on his personal server, but the provider does this for him. As a consumer, he enjoys the power of the services offered to him by his provider over the internet. Note that when using cloud computing types, users must first choose whether they are going to operate in a public or private cloud or a combination of both.  But what advantages does this offer?

The advantages of cloud computing

The use of the cloud service offers multiple advantages. Indeed, it offers scalability to its users. Because the provider provides them with the software and equipment infrastructure they need, customers don’t have to make investments in their organizations’ IT resources. However, they are able to request an extension from their service providers if necessary. In this case, the cloud service provider increases the number of user licenses in order to satisfy the customer.

In addition to this, compared to the actual acquisition of storage space, servers or software, access to a cloud service by subscription is less expensive. Moreover, the customer does not have to allocate a maintenance budget. Because of its flexible nature, the cloud service offers its users the freedom to deactivate subscriptions at any time. The main advantage with the cloud service is also the payment only for the services consumed. It is now time to master the main services offered by cloud computing.

The different types of cloud service

The cloud service mainly offers three services. First, there is the Saas or Software as a service. In this type of service, the provider offers a service to store and back up files, an email service and tools to manage projects. This service is often free and configurations are limited. Examples of this type of service include Dropbox, G-Suite, etc. where consumers can access, share and store secure data in their cloud spaces.

Then there is the Iaas cloud service or Infrastructure as a service. This system offers an IT infrastructure maintained by the provider. It is used in data centers where the customer does not need to install high-powered resources. An example of an Iaas provider is Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Engine, etc. Finally, there is Paas or Platform as a service. In this type of service, the re-installation of the operating system and tools has been done by the provider, but the client is able to make new additions from other providers. The environment created in this cloud service offers the possibility to create applications.
